We want your ideas and inspiration! On Saturday we will spend time gathering your opinions on how Yoga Teachers Together can best serve you and what you want from our fledging organisation. More events? More guidance? More support? We want Yoga Teachers Together to be an organisation led by the needs of its members, and this will be the perfect opportunity for you to share your thoughts and influence our future direction.
There will be a communal session of music, chanting, percussion and singing. You will be welcome to either enjoy from the sidelines or fully immerse yourself by picking up a drum, tambourine or shaker and joining in. This will either take place in Brathay’s fabulous yurt or - if the weather is kind to us - we will take our kirtan to the lakeside as the sun sets.
The Yoga Teachers Together Gathering is fully catered by Gracious Grub, so you should be well-fed! We will be dishing up a welcome dinner on our opening night, breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday, and a farewell brunch on Sunday (see menu below). Food will be nutritious and plant-based, down-to-earth and colourful. All meals will be served in our own kitchen at Old Brathay (washing-up karma will be appreciated!)

A native New Yorker, Elena Jessup has been teaching Sanskrit to children and adults for over twenty-nine years and is one of the main Sanskrit teachers at St James School in London. She received a Masters’ degree in Sanskrit Literature from London University (School of Oriental and African Studies) in 2008, is a Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society and is also a registered Yoga Elder at Yoga Teachers Together. Elena is also a faculty member of The School of Ayurveda UK and runs her own tutoring business, 3rd Eye Sanskrit (www.thirdeyesanskrit.com) which teaches Sanskrit and Indic philosophy worldwide to whoever wants to learn. Elena loves Vedic chanting and hopes her enthusiasm for all aspects of Sanskrit is shared by her students.
The workshop begins with a clear explanation of sciatica, including the anatomical structures involved and the sciatic nerve pathway. We will then explore the common causes of sciatic pain, including lower back issues, piriformis syndrome, and other potential triggers that yoga teachers should be aware of.
Participants will gain insight into the pathology of sciatica, learning to distinguish between different types of sciatic discomfort and their implications for practice. The core of the workshop focuses on effective sequencing principles for sciatic relief. Aimee shares her approach to creating yoga sequences that address the underlying issues while avoiding movements that might exacerbate symptoms. This includes specific pose modifications for different sciatica presentations.
All workshop participants receive a complimentary 10-minute video demonstration of a gentle sciatica relief sequence that they can reference later or share with their students.
This workshop is ideal for yoga teachers of all levels who want to deepen their understanding of a common condition and enhance their ability to work safely and effectively with affected students.
Aimee brings over 20 years of yoga teaching experience, complemented by rigorous osteopathic training, to her practice and instruction. Her journey began as a yoga teacher, where she developed a deep understanding of traditional yoga before advancing to osteopathy as a natural progression of her expertise.
After earning her M.Ost Masters Degree in Osteopathy from the University College of Osteopathy (UCO), Aimee worked at the prestigious UCO Clinic in London. Her professional practice combines hands-on osteopathic techniques with therapeutic yoga principles, creating a holistic approach to treatment and education.
Kate has struggled with balance issues over the years. As a result she has studied balance extensively as a way to improve her own wellbeing. Having experienced first hand the benefits that yoga can bring to people in maintaining and improving their sense of balance, Kate is keen to share this knowledge with other teachers.
Kate has shared this event with the Merseyside Yoga Association, Sussex BWY and Cheshire Yoga Teachers Association.
The Yoga Teachers Together Gathering takes place at Brathay near Ambleside in the stunning Lake District. Yoga sessions will take place in the Theatre, along with our discussion sessions. We also have use of a yurt where our kirtan session will take place.
We have sole use of Old Brathay. Accommodation is in spacious dormitories of 4 or 6, with plenty of storage. There are a number of communal areas, so you can either socialise with your fellow yoga teachers (and even play table tennis or table football) or find a quiet corner to settle down with a book or journal. An adjoining kitchen and dining room will serve up our delicious meals.
Check-in will be from 4pm on Friday 28th June. Room check-out on Sunday 30th June is at 10am, with our final session concluding at midday.
